Christmas 2015

Merry Christmas! This year's holiday season felt like it went by so quickly that I don't think I got to enjoy it as much. I was more busy than usual for some reason but I tried to get into the holiday mood as much as I could like playing KSSK 92.3 FM all day (they start playing Christmas music non-stop after Thanksgiving), lighting all my holiday candles, multi-tasking by watching as many holiday movies as I could while I worked, etc. But everything felt so rushed! Why??! Anyone else felt like that this year?

Anywho, I spent Christmas this year with my family at my dad's brother's house. It was such a fun night catching up with some of my cousins that I don't get to see often. But boy was I pooped that day! I went on a baking spree and decided to bake everything the night before the party so I would be less stressed the day of. On my baking list were peppermint crunch cupcakes and gingerbread vanilla cupcakes, mint brownies, gingerbread cookies, snickerdoodle cookies, and my favorite holiday cookie, a mix of the two: a gingerdoodle! If you love both flavors then you'll love it more when their mixed together!

Oh and FYI, this wasn't all of it. This is just what I brought to the party. Of course I stashed some in the fridge for myself ;)

Some people may think it's unnecessary, but I always save food containers that I think I could use one day (don't worry, I'm not a hoarder). The container for the cupcakes is what held other cupcakes I bought from Sam's Club earlier this year and what's holding the cookies and brownies is from a restaurant. The great thing about saving and reusing containers that held store-bought food is that you don't need to use your own containers, pans, pots, etc. to bring to parties and wait for the hostess to transfer left overs into theirs. And it's also less stress for the hostess! They don't need to hurry and transfer food or wonder who left behind their tupperware. So think twice before you throw something out...it could be useful :)

I usually document the color changes of my favorite magical plant, the Poinsettia, but this year, honestly...there wasn't much to look at. It was incredibly hot this Summer all over the world from what I heard, and it was no different here in Hawai'i. The insane heat in the Summer plus the non-stop rain we experienced in the Fall really affected the Poinsettia's color changes. I saw on our local news that local farmers were worried about their plants not being ready for Christmas time. Our plants at home barely turned red. Just a few here and there. I miss seeing an abundance of red velvet leaves in our garden!

It's definitely gotten a lot cooler here in Hawai'i though. But still not as cold as previous years. Hopefully the cool wind lasts for a few more months because I'm dreading another hot summer! I'm not ready to put my sweaters and jackets away! I love feeling all snuggly and cozy :'(

I hope you all had a wonderful and meaningful Christmas. I can't believe a new year is upon us. I can only hope and pray that the new year brings more peace and joy into my family's lives. We've had a tough past 2 years. Praying for the best <3
